When freezing temperatures threaten our plants we take measures to protect them. Tropical plants for summer had already begun to arrive when a deep freeze hit!
Known to the staff as “tent city” we covered tender marginal plants. These will all make an appearance in mid April as part of our annual displays.
Coverings allow in some light, trap heat and keep the cold out but are still strong enough to withstand wind. Also, a well watered plant can handle the freeze –thaw cycle better.
