Hort Short: A gem of a shrub

Rhododendron ‘Conlee’ also known as Autumn Amethyst(TM) Encore (R) Azalea is an eye-catching broadleaf evergreen shrub.

It tolerates partial shade to partial sun and reaches a height of 4-5 feet with a spread about the same. Like most azaleas it prefers acidic, well drained soil. Its showy, fuchsia flowers bloom first in the spring and then again in late summer through autumn. The rich jewel like tones are not only attractive to our eye but also many pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies. Check it out near the Moon Gate of the Japanese Garden on your next visit to the garden!
